Search Suggested... It's Back - 03/05/2006 23:40 GMT
Well last night after some hard work (not by me) the search suggest feature has been brought back. Its not complete, currently it only searches packages but I plan on adding categories and more later. For the current version you can thank Jeremy Kitchen and all his hard work.
Also today I am bringing back the Firefox search plugin. you can thank Francesco Aggazio for that one. You can download the files Here; a page will be made soon to include the javascript needed to add it automagically to your search bar.

I'd like to suggest that if there is only one result, that you go directly to it rather than see a result page.

That would defeat the purpose of the search suggest, as it is supposed to adjust to the typing, allowing the user to make necessary changes or jump to a result if they wish to.

I don't know if I'm the only one who has this problem, but in Firefox 1.0.8 if I slowly type in "mozilla-firefox" in the search box (giving the pop-up enough time to appear) and press [Enter], my entry disappears and I'm left on the same page!
I'm not sure what browser search suggest is designed for, but it doesn't seem to work properly on any of them!

@opera person:
yea, it's a problem with how opera renders it. Nothing really that can be done about it :(
@Alec:
yes, I have that fixed in development, and I'm currently working on some additional stuff for it. I'll get Mike to put in the fix for that tonight :)

Thanks Jeremy :)

it still causes issues if you have your mouse over where the autocompletion options pop up when it pops up, and I'm working on that, but otherwise it should be fine :)
